John Opie is the most interesting writer I've read in a long time...so knowledgeable and suspenseful..
5.0 out of 5 stars never a Dull Page
By Charles R. Jones on December 11, 2001
I honestly believe that if the President in 1999 (Clinton) or his CIA director had read The Medusa Papers the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon would not have occurred.
The book is captivating and well written with Dr. Opie telling a story that is fiction yet not really. His use of facts, not known to many of us in 1999, to tell a very good story full of actual events and kept this reader on the edge of his seat because of the uncanny recent events of 9-11 that would be in the sequel if there was one. I have lived in the Middle East and have worked with some of the people mentioned in the book and I am surprised at how much the author knows about the interworking of the Terrorist organization and how his brain works.
I am recommending the Medusa Papers to all of my friends.
5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful Action Thriller
By Jmclmacon March 27, 2001
John Opie is a masterful writer and I am amazed that his book is not more recognized. The storyline is exciting with intrigue and suspense mixed with recognizable facts interspersed with fiction about the terrorist bombings in Europe. I hope he continues his storytelling! His character development and style make the book hard to put down, don't leave a pot simmering when you start to read this, its contents will surely burn unattended.
5.0 out of 5 stars. What a great read... Where's Ghostberg? (Ghostberg changed into 9 Seconds, John Opie).
By A customer November 21, 2001
This was a great story -- and very timely. I could not put it down after the first couple of dozen pages. Where's the next book... Ghostberg?

Another TREASURE of a read from John Opie!
By Leslie L. on August 31, 2014
Format: Paperback

Nazi Treasure is my third read by author John Opie. Once again, Opie has achieved a "hit-it-out-of-the-ballpark" home run with his intense pacing, meticulous character development and incredible historical research. Opie's books aren't a typical "easy read" like so much of current, mass-produced fiction; instead, his books require--indeed demand--the reader's full attention and powers of reasoning. I am a fast and voracious reader, but due to the complexity of Opie's plots and fast action, I find myself slowing it down and actually savoring the story while I think. His ability to weave complexity with entertainment is one-of-a-kind. His descriptions of scenes are graphic and realistic; his character dialogue is never forced or phony. I have yet to be bored or disappointed by any of his books and Nazi Treasure is no exception. Readers everywhere: Purchase and Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 starsA Must Read Addition to Your Personal Library
By Leslie L. on 11 May 2014 - Published on Amazon.com
Firebase Gecko is a fast-paced dramatic read that is meticulously researched and presented. A reader is drawn in---and kept interested---from the opening sentence. Opie presents facts and then weaves an intriguing story that is filled with twists, turns and many surprises. The book requires concentration from the reader and an ability to keep up with the pace. I loved it and will read other works by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thriller, Page-Turner, and a Roller Coaster

Dr. Opie's books are, in every sense of the word(s), summed up by my title. His entire series simply can't be put down. They are an immensely enjoyable read, filled with intrigue, suspense, who-dun-it's, and an edge-of-your-seat storyline. His characters are real-life, interesting, and immensely likable. You'll be
rootin' them on throughout.
He writes a story that has its origins in today's geo-politic (his other one, Nazi Treasure has its origins in WWII), he is a consummate researcher, and you can find the places he writes about. Simply close your eyes and pretend you are with his characters. You'll be traveling around the world shortly! He has an incredible eye for detail, both in character development, equipment used, and geography.
The main character, Jon Gold, is a Navy SEAL and he tries to prevent the world from being blown up by a radical Islamist terrorist group. Try to keep up with Special Agent Gold!
Interestingly, and this is not as accurate now (5/14/14) with Tesla being a near-household name but when I read this book when it was first published in 2011 (yeah, I'm not sure either why it took me 3 years to write a review about a book that simply can not be forgotten) reading "Scorpion Sanction" was like peering into the future. In his afterword, Dr. Opie describes at least four different fuel cells and how well they would power automobiles. He reviews the electric car potential like the billion + dollar international business that it is with painstaking attention to pros, cons, projections, costs, efficiency, development, delivery (of the electricity), production (of the electricity) . . . I mean, it's incredible!
I have purchased each of his books and they are all fantastic. If you like edgy, espionage, and energy politics, this one is for you. Makes a great gift too!
Sincerely,
Patrick Shaughnessy

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to lose sleep --- I did!

By Leslie L.on May 28, 2014
Format: Hardcover

If you are willing to lose sleep---reading late,
late, late into the night---then Scorpion Sanction
is the book for you. It is a fast-paced, completely
absorbing story of the battle for control of crude
oil, emerging terrorism and matters of national
security. The author presents a well researched
story, characterized by a strong plot and a
relatable hero in CIA agent, Jon Gold. The author's
attention to detail is the hallmark of his work and
the level of research he undertakes is remarkable.
This is the second John Opie book I have read (Firebase Gecko the first) and I will definitely purchase and read a third! Opie's work appeals to a wide range of literary tastes and engages the reader from the opening paragraph. A must-read on vacation, a flight, or over a long weekend.
The lost hours of sleep are definitely worth the pleasure I got from reading Scorpion Sanction!

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Read; Scary Implications

By Russell R on June 11, 2014

Format: Hardcover

This was the first novel I've read from John Opie, and I can tell you it's not like other fiction I've read. There is a combination of thrill seeking terrorist activity combined with insights historically and factually provoking that really keep your mind jumping. If you have an interest in fast moving fiction plotting CIA operative, Gold, against a terrorist cell attempting to take down the Middle Eastern oil supply as we know it today, you won't be disappointed. The narrative weaving fiction with today's energy reality is really fascinating. The epilogue alone is just "icing on the cake" and will have you thinking about implications for quite some time, perhaps not in a total sense of comfort.

Different from his other recent books but the same
impressive, knock-out detail. I particularly enjoyed
the last half of the book analyzing and contrasting
high profile historical figures. Dr. Opie's creativity,
vast knowledge and range on his subjects is a draw
throughout.
Miriam P. Firebase Gecko is fantastic.

Second Edition!

"Nazi Treasure" - It was good to see that the theme includes, there can be some justice in the long run when an injustice has been done! Remarkable story you have put together John, with a long range return in a historical plot from Hitler and the 2nd Great War to 65 years later and the continuous effects of Terrorism in the world. I have learned a lot from the tremendous detail and research that you have given the reader. Your story takes us into the world of Hitler's Regime and the people he drew into his web of terror and reminds us that we must not let leaders of the world be allowed to become so powerful. This book takes us into the underground world of War and plunder and stealing. There are lots of lessons around the importance of Counter Terrorism and how leaders of all Countries of the world have to be prepared to stand in opposition.
It's hard to imagine a Terrorists group being able to actually take over a massive tanker ship loaded with tons of oil being taken captive by Terrorists and floating it into San Francisco Bay and attempting to destroy the whole area with tons of spilled oil blown in every direction? Thanks to the American Know How and the trained people like the Military SEALS who come to the rescue and save the day and San Francisco City.
Hitler had hidden his plunder and before he shot himself, he had created a coded system in which he could pass on the wealth to the German Reich through others involved like himself. It took a tremendous effort on many peoples’ part before the CIA and a clandestine group of people could first of all, decode the message, which has been past on and find the place where the Treasure has been hidden. And then to enter the mountain hiding place and rescue the loot from its dusty lockup of so many years and return it to whom it really belonged.
Dr. John Opie's book is a dramatic read because it brings to our attention how the forces of evil power work in the world and how Terrorism has to be challenged by us all. It reminds us of how powerful Terrorism is and our need to guard against it so we might have a more peaceful world.. James G. Canada.

I love your books.
Peer Review by writer/heart surgeon John Opie is a very challenging and provocative book. He indicates peer review is typically confined to academia but in reality, peer review is much larger than that. He points out rather dramatically; it is involved in most of our daily decisions.
His book spirits the reader into the world of peoples' minds and hearts and their entire lives. It relates to what drives and what motivates people to do the things they do. His book illustrates how we try to measure, evaluate and understand why some people do great things and why others do the reverse. It typically boils down to the power of immunity. In his book, we are introduced to many historical figures - leaders of the world who became tyrants motivated by power and influence and used it once immunized to literally destroy nations and commit genocide. He introduces the reader to multiple self-immunized leaders - Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Henry VIII, Mussolini, Mao Se Tung, Catherine de Medici and others wielding vast power and influence. They exhibited the sense that no one should be able to judge what they did.
Dr. Opie’s book outlines that that kind of thinking is not uncommon, even in medicine, where a serious peer review of a doctor's actions can be very helpful. Because it has been immunized, sham (unethical) peer review is widespread. He points out that that has led to extensive abuse. ‘Absolute power corrupts absolutely’ occurs only when immunity exists.
John Opie’s book is about peer review and all of its many dimensions. The Hippocratic Oath, used by doctors, is an example of encouraging medical doctors to be fair and honest in their medical practices and to be accountable to their patients and their peers.
He underscores that peer review is a way of finding a balance of power and influence in our lives and in the daily functions of our world.
Dr. Opie's book is an eye-opener and will help us understand the importance of peer review in the world in which we live. He points out it can be used for good but also for evil - certainly when immunized. My view - definitely worth reading 5/5, you’ll learn some disquieting facts and multiple amazing benefits to mankind as a result of peer review. .

My advice - buy and read
Leslie L - Just finished reading ROGUE SWORD
I've read several Opie books and the latest--Rogue Sword--does not disappoint! In this twist-and-turn plot, protagonist Jon Gold must deal with digital espionage and Islamic terrorism, all in a day's work. From Rotterdam to Los Angeles, this story is fast-paced with sharp observations and believable narrative.

In Frenemies, Dr. Opie has written an explosive story of Middle East terrorism and big oil events. We enter the world of Dr. Caleb Emanuel, a Raytheon missile scientist working with the Block V Tomahawk missile group. Emanuel upgrades the UK Astute Class submariners on torpedo launching Block V cruise missiles but he is hijacked while in London, UK. His Iranian abductors extract the super-secret Bayman Code out of him using an old Soviet truth serum. CIA agent Jon Gold is dispatched and saves the scientist from being murdered on the Black Sea. Several Block V Tomahawk cruise missiles are fired from a warship in the western Persian Gulf targeting Mount Qasioun in Syria. The missiles detect an abnormal in-flight Bayman code reassignment sequence and they automatically lock on and target the source of the rogue coding. That sets off a brief but violent Persian Gulf war.
Once home, Dr. Emanuel who is the grandnephew of a wealthy Jewish survivor of WWII who avoided the Holocaust finds out he is the only living heir and pursues his inheritance stashed away in a Spanish bank. He learns some hard lessons about the generational transfer of wealth and the tremendous greed and dishonesty involved with banks, governments, and federal agencies.
The book informs the reader about military computer science in multiple countries. I would call it, "Decadents in Weapons of War".
My recommendation - buy and read, you won’t be disappointed. Dynamite!

WOW!
That's very impressive. Lovely covers and very good reads.

I just finished reading Court Combat and absolutely loved it. I think it is a must-read for all practitioners and required reading for those just beginning the practice of medicine. How can I purchase a few copies to pass it on? Many thanks,
Dr. Martin Z.
